International summer masterclasses

International summer masterclasses of the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica will offer an extension of professional education to domestic and foreign students of universities and secondary schools. The education will take the form of full-day workshops with excellent lecturers - internationally renowned performers. The aim will be to receive new suggestions for the students as well as their touch with the art of the lecturers at the lecturers' concert. It is also the organizer's interest to transfer the suggestions from the lectures to the concert stage at the final concert of the participants. Both concerts, as well as the workshops themselves, will be open to the public.

→ INFORMATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Each active participant receives one lesson per day with a tutor. The maximum number of active participants is eight participants per one lecturer.
Upon completion of the courses, active attendees receive a certificate for active participation and passive attendees receive a certificate for passive participation in the master classes.
Courses do not reimburse participants for meals or accommodation, but may arrange accommodation in the Academy of Arts Student House, which is part of the Academy of Arts building, until capacity is available. There are plenty of catering options in the vicinity. The Academy building is within walking distance of the historic city centre.

Active participants fee: 50 €
The fee must be paid within 10 days of confirmation of participation on masterclasses to the account Občianske združenie Koncertné združenie pri Fakulte múzických umení v Banskej Bystrici (account number will be sent by e-mail).


→ SCHEDULE OF COURSES

28. 8. − 31. 8. 2024  Lessons with lecturers will take place in the concert halls and classrooms of the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica,
                                 Kollárova 22 in the morning and afternoon blocks.

30. 8. 2024               The course lecturers will present themselves at the concert of the lecturers on 30 August at 18.00 at the Národný dom Hotel on 11 Národná Street.
                                 The programme will be dedicated to the Year of Czech Music.

31. 8. 2024               The final concert by the lecturers of the selected participants, at which all participants will be presented with certificates of completion of the courses,
                                 will take place on 31 August at 15.00 in the Chamber Hall of the FMU Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, Kollárova 22.
 

LECTORS


Ivan Ženatý (CZ) Czech violin virtuoso and music teacher. Since 2012 he has been working in the USA at the Cleveland Institute of Music. A graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (1987), winner of the 1986 Prague Spring Violin Competition and finalist in the 1982 Tchaikovsky Competition, he is now a renowned chamber musician, soloist and music educator. After leaving the Czech Academy of Performing Arts, he took up a permanent position as professor of violin at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden. Since 2023 he has also been teaching at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

 

  

Marián Lapšanský (SK) Renowned Slovak musician, piano virtuoso and respected artist. He studied piano at the Bratislava Conservatory and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Prof. Lapšanský has an extensive concert and pedagogical activity. His artistic career not only as a soloist but also as a perceptive chamber musician has gained a wide international reach. He has taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and held the position of General Director of the Slovak Philharmonic. He is currently teaching at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

 

 

Petr Nouzovský (CZ) One of the best European cellists of his generation. He can be heard on many prestigious stages. His playing is particularly appreciated for its supreme technical refinement combined with the original musical tectonic construction of his compositions. He teaches at the Prague Conservatory. He is a member of the teaching staff of New York University in Prague. He also regularly teaches masterclasses. He is a co-founder of the "International Cello Competition for the Gustav Mahler Prize" in Jihlava.

 

 


→ PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT

Pianists will accompany the violinists and cellists during the course lessons and at the final concert of the participants.

Xenia Egedová
Is a graduate of the Conservatory in Košice and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. She studied her doctoral studies with prof. Stanislav Zamborský at the VŠMU in Bratislava and with doc. jana Škvarková at FMU AU in Banská Bystrica. Since 1999 she has been an accompanist at the Conservatory in Banská Bystrica and the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. In chamber music she works mainly with string and wind instruments.

Matej Arendárik
One of the most outstanding personalities of the younger generation of Slovak pianists. He studied at the Conservatory in Žilina under Darina Švárna and at the Academy of Arts in Prague under prof. Marián Lapšanský. He regularly performs in individual concert performances as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a teacher and accompanist at the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and at the Ján Levoslav Bella Conservatory in Banská Bystrica.
